So I thought we were all better….after being sick over Christmas it seemed like we were finally all healed.  But someone brought home something terrible this weekend that knocked us all on our butts.  A family of mouth breathers we are…now please excuse me while I go blow my nose.

cooking, food, photography

This was dinner- Roasted Beet Salad with Chicken and Feta.  Yum.  I make this a lot during the winter, it’s also really good with some apples thrown in, and goat cheese in place of the feta.  But the beets are the best part, it doesn’t really matter what you put with it!

365 Day Photo Challenge- Day 14

kids, outdoors, photography

Today’s challenge- shooting outdoors at twilight.  Interesting because it takes different settings to capture different things.  I had a lot of fun messing around and got lots of great shots.  The kids were happy because they got to wear what they wanted (in the girl’s case: pants, a t-shirt, her favorite dress and tutu, her fuzzy jacket, AND her vest) and we just played at the playground.

So my best shot today wasn’t stellar.  There was an awesome, perfect half moon in the sky this morning, and I messed with some slow shutter speed to try and capture it, but I know I didn’t do it justice.  This one was best because it captured the beautiful clear blue that the sky was and some detail on the moon.  Certainly a skill to practice in the future!

365 Day Photo Challenge- Day 12

food, outdoors, photography

Beautiful day today, and I actually took the camera outside to take a couple shots while the sun was shining this afternoon.  Amazing what a difference a little sunshine makes- mainly in my attitude!  Also, I made some delicious homemade Pho for dinner tonight with supplies from our local H-mart (which is super fun if you enjoy Asian or Latin foods, you should totally check it out) so there’s one really pretty picture of that too.  Enjoy!

Spring among the winter

Signs of spring….a bit early but no one told my strawberries! I hope they don’t freeze!

Garden Stones

In my little backyard garden are a couple stepping stones made for me as gifts. Before the girl came along, these are my first baby’s hands and feet.

365 Day Photo Challenge- Day 11

photography, Seahawks

So today I met up with a couple of my photography loving buddies Butternut Blonde (use the link to check out her 365 day challenge on Instagram) and NxNw Photagraphy, mostly so the two of us camera newbies (me and Butternut) could pick the more experienced and brilliant brain of the man behind NxNW.  We had a lot of fun toying with aperture and focus options, and playing with macro shooting a bit.  Oh, and more fun with remotes!  I’m not sure my shots today are any better right off the bat, but I’m certainly learning!

Nikon D5100, I lost track of which lens I had on, but I had a cool little macro tube shooting thingy that I’d borrowed, f 13, ISO 2000

365 Day Photo Challenge- Day 10

So…GO HAWKS!  What a great game.  It’s the first one this year I’ve gotten to sit down and really watch, so it was super fun!  I’m glad they won or my hubby would never let me watch another game.  True story.

In other exciting news, I got a remote for the camera this week.  So several of my shots today are me trying to figure out how to make that work.  Maybe not some of the best shots I’ve ever taken, but still pretty fun.
